The UK is not an easy country to move to. It's a place that carries with it several positive connotations. It's one of the most powerful countries in the world, has some of the best universities, and is home to many working opportunities. The problem is that once you get here, there are many hurdles that come into play for students who want to gain employment within this city or country in general. One such hurdle in terms of seeking employment is healthcare: it can be difficult and time-consuming for Indian students in the UK to access health care services when they're abroad.

The specifics of healthcare in the United Kingdom are as follows:
HOW MUCH?
Students, who are studying full-time whilst abroad, must pay the total sum of £53.60 per week or £716.40 per month for basic healthcare services. If you're staying in a boarding school, then you will also need to pay an annual boarding fee of £5,765. These fees are the responsibility of the host school/academy that you're staying at. The boarding fee is paid directly to the academy by the parents of the Indian students living there during their stay in the UK. The annual boarding fee is paid to the school for each Indian student living there.
HOW AND WHEN?
The school will require the parents of the Indian students to pay two installments, one for the boarding fee and the other for health care. It's important to note that these are both mandatory charges that are due before you can even show up to the UK Visa Application Centre (CIP6). You must know how much your fees are before you start this process because once you're at CIP6, it's too late. If you're meeting all these requirements, then it's time to apply for your visa.
TO GET HELP?
You may want to talk with an immigration consultant who can help you with this process.
The National Health Service, or NHS, is a well-known state-run healthcare system in the United Kingdom. This insurance is usually covered, international students. If one does not qualify, then private medical insurance is a better option. The students are eligible for the NHS if they have a tier 4 student visa and are studying in the UK for more than 6 months.
The two categories are as follows:
TIER 4 STUDENTS:
A yearly immigration health surcharge of £150 is charged in this case. It is also the responsibility of the dependents to pay for it. If your visa application is denied for any reason, you will receive a full refund (but not the visa application fee).
PRIVATE INSURANCE:
This is not a replacement for the National Health Service so as an international student, you cannot avoid paying a health fee while applying for a visa. It is entirely up to you if you will purchase private medical insurance in order to boost the number of hospitals available or not. If you have medical insurance in your home country, you may be able to extend it to include benefits in the United Kingdom.
Benefits of National Health Service:
You will be entitled to the same benefits as UK nationals and this covers primary doctor visits, emergency room visits, required psychiatric therapy, family planning, and some specialized communicable disease treatment charges. These are given away for free. However, you must cover the fees of vaccinations, prescriptions, dentistry, and optical therapy.
A few last things to note for international students is on arriving in the UK, it is essential to get some doctor’s contact in your locality. For students, this facility is usually provided on the campus itself. Another important thing to do is to immediately register yourself in the NHS list since the registration process takes time. Dental and optometry are usually not free, but this also depends on the cases. If you need an ambulance for an emergency, call 999 or you can directly go to the emergency department of any enlisted hospital 24*7. Overall, as an international student, it is preferable to get NHS insurance since it covers everything necessary.
